Our Story

Chiefs are leaders and arguably the most important part of any organization. They come in all shapes, shades, and genders. No matter if you’re the head of the household or a CEO, everyone has characteristics of a chief. In some way or another, we are all go-getters, decisionmakers, courageous, confident and creative thinkers who have overcome adversity. Sound like you? Of course it does.

The hustle looks different for everyone of us but we are all relentless in the pursuit of what we want and celebrating the things that are most important, or chief, to us -- family, successes, friends, life, progress, heritage, etc.

Our founders are connected in the same way. From different pockets of the country -- Memphis, Philadelphia, and Detroit, respectively, they were introduced in college but remain bonded by friendship and the shared journey to create a legacy as well as community through memories one glass at a time.

A wise man once said, “Long live the Chief.” So, we raise our glasses to you. Cheers, Chief. Welcome to the society.

Travis Maverick

Travis was born and raised in Memphis. He prides himself on being the best person he can be. No one puts more pressure on him than he does. The way Travis comes down from a long week is by pouring him up a glass of whiskey neat. Thanks to an old head in Chicago who put him on to whiskey and cigars they have become a staple in how he chooses to relax. He wanted to create a whiskey that everyone could enjoy in their own way. With that came Chief Society which he started with two friends. His goal is for it to become a staple for others. One that will last well beyond his lifetime.

David Kane

On the playground is where he spent most of his days, Dave grew up in West Philly and later became a proud Hamptonian. Being introduced to whiskey & bourbon at an age in which he feels is “late in life”, he was able to experience drinking more maturely. Though before sitting down to enjoy a glass of Chief’s neat, he’d love to be concluding an F1 race at Monaco and scoring the top podium. When he is not off somewhere daydreaming about the next race, Dave’s go to whiskey is a wheat blend and an occasional rye. Picture this… a small get together with friends and family, dim lit, 90’s hip-hop, r&b, and 70’s funk playing in the background, laughing, reminiscing; the perfect atmosphere to have smooth glass amongst great people. Chief’s Society is a brand that will live on, leave a proper legacy with the generations to come. A whiskey that offers high quality taste, atmosphere, and contributes to a moment never before experienced.

Jerome LeRoy

Intrigued by the world of mixology being a form of art, Jerome has over 10 yrs + of experience as an architect who has traveled the world for both work and pleasure. Just as with architecture, Jerome believes “that behind every great building is a great architect”, and also “that beside every great building is a perfectly mixed cocktail,” as referenced by Kosmos Architects. During his travels, Jerome has compared the classic prohibition-era cocktails to the signature cocktails of various locations that are influenced by innovation and/or locally produced products. This has helped Jerome to determine not only if the cocktail works, but what about the cocktail works well which includes: the presentation, the ingredients, and the right bartender.  That’s why for Jerome, Chief’s Society is a combination of what works well between the three friends.
